// Web Engineering

Shopify development, headless builds, and custom storefronts.

Shopify, Headless, and custom builds engineered for speed, SEO, and conversion.

Most agency-built Shopify themes look pretty and convert badly. We build storefronts the other way: PageSpeed scores in the 90s, Core Web Vitals green across mobile, SEO baked into the theme architecture, and CRO patterns hard-wired into the PDP and checkout flow. Liberty Bass Shop launched on this stack from a blank Shopify URL to seven-figure ARR in 18 months.

// What we deliver

The full scope of website development.

Shopify theme development

Custom Shopify themes built on Online Store 2.0 with section-based templates, native metafields, and Liquid that's actually maintainable. Fast, mobile-first, SEO-ready, and editable by your team without a developer.

Headless Shopify (Hydrogen / Next.js)

Headless storefronts on Hydrogen, Next.js, or custom React for brands where theme performance ceilings won't cut it. Storefront API, server components, edge deployment — speed without giving up Shopify's commerce backend.

Speed + Core Web Vitals optimization

Image optimization, asset bundling, code splitting, third-party script audits, deferred loading. Target is 90+ Lighthouse Performance and all-green Core Web Vitals on mobile — which directly lifts conversion rate.

PDP + checkout CRO patterns

Battle-tested PDP layouts — sticky add-to-cart, variant pickers, social proof modules, FAQ accordions, schema markup. Checkout extensibility for post-iOS-14 upsells, custom shipping logic, and trust-badge placement.

App integration + tech stack consolidation

Klaviyo, Recharge, Yotpo, ShipStation, Shopify Flow — integrated cleanly without 47 conflicting JS bundles. We audit the app stack and consolidate where it improves performance.

Migrations from WooCommerce / BigCommerce / Magento

Full storefront migrations to Shopify with redirect maps, SEO preservation, customer + order data import, and zero-downtime DNS cutover. We've migrated brands from every major platform.

// FAQ

Common questions about website development.

Do you build on Shopify themes or go headless?

Both. ~80% of clients are best served by a custom Shopify Online Store 2.0 theme — fast, maintainable, native admin. The other 20% (high-traffic stores, complex catalogs, performance-sensitive brands) benefit from headless on Hydrogen or Next.js. We assess fit per project; we don't have a religion.

How long does a Shopify build take?

Theme builds: 6-10 weeks from kickoff to launch. Headless builds: 10-16 weeks. Migrations from another platform: 8-12 weeks including data import and redirect mapping. Timelines depend on catalog complexity and integration count.

Will you also handle the design, or do I need a separate designer?

Both options. We have an in-house design team that ships Figma comps and ships the build from those. Clients with existing brand designers can hand us Figma files and we'll execute the build. Hybrid arrangements are common — we design the high-impact pages (home, PDP, collection) and the client owns secondary pages.

Can you fix my existing slow Shopify site instead of rebuilding it?

Often, yes — a 2-4 week Performance Sprint covering image optimization, third-party script consolidation, theme code refactoring, and lazy-loading deployment can lift Lighthouse scores from the 40s into the 80s on most themes. If the theme architecture is fundamentally broken, a rebuild is faster than a fix.

What's the ongoing maintenance cost after launch?

Most clients keep a small retainer (typically 5-20 hours/month) for ongoing dev work — new product templates, A/B tests, app integrations, seasonal campaign pages. Pure 'lights on' Shopify hosting is included in their Shopify plan and requires no agency support.

Want results like this for your brand?
